I’m going to analyze the 2012-2013 NFC Conference futures below and then briefly post my predictions for every division. The betting odds are from the Pinnacle Sportsbook who actually just launched their brand new mobile betting app.

Who Will Win the NFC Conference in 2012-13?
- Green Bay Packers +265 (Last Season 15-1)
The Packers had an incredible 15-1 record during the regular season last year, but they lost in the divisional round of the playoffs against a hot Giants team (37-20). Despite having the best NFL record during the regular season the Packers couldn’t get it done in the playoffs and that’s mainly because their defence was unable to hold up against the NYG.
I hate to have to pick the favourite in the NFC Conference, but there are strong reasons why I have. The Packers undoubtedly is a team that should win the NFC Conference, as they have the most talent on the field. Green Bay averaged 35 PPG (1st) last year and that was mainly due to their potent passing attack, which averaged 307.8 YPG (3rd).
The offence is basically identical and will score tons of points again. GB needed to improve on defence and they did just that in the draft by drafting players such as Nick Perry, Jerel Worthy and Casey Hayward. With an improved defence that should have plenty of time to gel during the regular season I really like the Packers to get some revenge and win the NFC.
What Teams in the NFC Will Challenge the Packers?
- Philadelphia Eagles +544 (Last Season 8-8)
Philly should prove to be the biggest challenger in the AFC for the Packers. The Eagles went a dismal 8-8 last season and they didn’t even make the playoffs, but if they can stay healthy the team is extremely talented. Philly scored 24.8 PPG (8th) plus they had one of the T5 rushing attacks with an average of 142.2 YPG (5th).
The Eagles made a couple decent draft picks, but other than that the team is unchanged. The biggest question is going to be the health of the team, but if healthy I could definitely see the Eagles making a playoff run after winning the NFC East. Vick, McCoy and Jackson all need to have big seasons in order to make the loss of WR Steve Smith sting less.
- San Francisco 49’ers +605 (Last Season – 13-3)
I like the Eagles, but the team I think will prove most difficult for the Packers is the 49’ers. Lots of experts think the 49’ers will regress, but that means I should get tons of value betting them again this season. San Fran proved to me last season that they have enough talent on the team to be a playoff bound team. I don’t like Smith, but it could be worse.
Bolstering the offence this off-season was important. The 49’ers signed Randy Moss, but the signing I’m happy about is Mario Manningham who should have a big year as a deep threat in SF. The defence is already very tough and well coached, so I could see the 49’ers making it at least into the NFC Conference Championship Game this year now that they have a bit of experience.
- New Orleans Saints +750 (Last Season 13-3)
The Saints aren’t getting too much respect due to the coaching scandal and suspensions. The talent on the field is still high in NO and they made the big move to sign Drew Brees long-term despite waiting awhile this summer. If you can get past the big off-field issues in New Orleans this team could easily win the AFC Conference in 2012-13 and at great odds.
NO averaged 334.3 PYPG (1st) last season on offence and it was imperative to resign Brees. The team also averaged 132.9 RYPG (6th), which easily made them one of the scariest offences in the NFL. Defence was a problem, especially the secondary, but NO made a few great signings. Nick Toon was also drafted in the 4th round and he should ease the pain of losing Meachem.
- New York Giants +1059 (Last Season 9-7 – Won NFC Conference)
We have to mention the Superbowl Champions from last season in our preview. The G-Men peaked at the right time last season and ended up winning the Superbowl. This season I don’t think the Giants will make the playoffs. They lost WR Manningham and RB Jacobs during the off-season, which is going to hurt the offence more than some people expect.
NYG had to draft and sign a lot of defensive players this off-season as well because their defence needed more work than the offence. The Giants ranked in the bottom of the league on defence by allowing 25 PPG (25th), 255.1 PYPG (29th) and 121.2 RYPG (19th). The Giants defence wasn’t able to stop much last season until the playoffs started.
