Euro 2012 Quarterfinals: Germany vs. Greece Predictions
The Germans were among the favourites to win Euro 2012 and they impressed during the group stage. Germany had to play in Group B and they managed to win the stacked group with a 3-0-0 record. Most punters had the Greeks being knocked out by the knockout phase, but Greece’s style of grinding out football matches proved successful in their 1-0 win over Russia.
Germany Tournament Recap (3-0-0)
Germany is the only team to win their 3 group stage matches at Euro 2012 and they now have a lot of pressure to perform in the knockout phase because anything other than a spot in the finals would be a disappointment. Mario Gomez scored the only goals (3) for the Germans in their 1st two matches, but in the win against the Dutch (2-1) Podolski and Bender scored the goals.
Greece Tournament Recap (1-1-1)
I didn’t think the Greeks would qualify for the knockout stage, but they finished runner-up in Group A after an eventful 3rd match against the Russians. Greece needed to beat Russia in the final match to advance and they pulled out a lucky win. Greece netted a mere 3 goals during group stage, but they also only conceded 3 goals (2 in 1st 6 minutes against Czech).

Germany vs. Greece Betting Tips
- Germany to win at 1.36 (Paddy Power)
Germany should be able to beat the Greeks without too much worry in the QF’s. Looking at the H2H records shows us that the Greeks have never been able to beat the Germans. In the two most recent match-ups (Qualification for 2002 WC) Germany has beaten the Greeks 2-0 and 4-2. The odds of 1.36 aren’t that enticing, but at the end of the day Germany should win.
If you plan on trading the match you should take a look at the draw market or O/U markets. Greece has only conceded 3 goals in 3 matches at Euro 2012 and 2 of those goals were scored in the 3rd/6th minute against the Czech. Greece stepped up their efforts on defence against Russia and was able to keep a clean sheet.
I think the best early trade would be to back the draw at 5.25 odds pre-match. An early goal for the Germans would be bad for this trade, but if Greece scores early it will be fine. With this trade we’re looking to trade out of the market in the 1st half. Backing the Germans and trading the draw could both prove to be profitable in this match.
Germany vs. Greece Best Bets
I like the U2.5 goals in this match at 2.00 odds (888Sport). If you’re new to 888Sport you can claim a £88 free bet once you begin betting at the bookmaker. The Germans have gone O2.5 goals 2 out of 3 times during group stage while the Greeks went O2.5 just once against the Czech and that was because their defence was asleep for the 1st 10 minutes of the match.
Greece know they need to try and win this match 1-0 like they did against Russia because the Greeks don’t have the firepower to try and keep up with the Germans in a wide open high paced match. I expect the Greeks to come out focused early on and we can either trade out of the U2.5 market at halftime if there is enough profit or let the bet ride.
Mario Gomez was held scoreless against the Dutch, so he should be itching to score. Paddies is offering up to a £100 refund on the First/Last Goalscorer, Correct Score and Scorecast markets if Mario Gomez scores the 1st goal of the match.
