Match #23: England vs. Ukraine Predictions

Group D has been very tight up to this point and the final day of group stage matches should be great. England will take on the co-hosts Ukraine and the English are currently listed as healthy favourites to win. With Wayne Rooney back in the line-up it looks like the English should be able to win and secure a spot in the quarter-finals at Euro 2012.

England Tournament Recap (1-1-0)

The English have done their jobs up to this point in Group D. A 1-1 draw against the French without Rooney was a good result for England and they followed the draw up with a 3-2 victory over the Swedes. Carroll scored the 1st goal in England’s match against the Swedes, but Sweden replied with the next two goals. Walcott and Welbeck netted late goals to give the English a 3-2 win.

Ukraine Tournament Recap (1-0-1)

The Ukraine won their 1st match, but they just lost 2-0 to France in their 2nd match. Ukraine is 3rd in Group D, but if they can win against England tomorrow they’ll qualify for the QF’s. Shevchenko is dealing with an injury at the moment and the news is that he may be limited in his playing time tomorrow, which doesn’t bode well for the co-hosts chances tomorrow.

England vs. Ukraine Betting Tips

England has to be happy with their situation heading into their last group stage match. Wayne Rooney is back in the line-up now after serving his suspension and he’ll be starting upfront in place of Carroll. England only needs a draw against Ukraine to qualify for the quarter-finals, but they’ll want to try and secure 1st place in Group D to avoid playing Spain in the QF’s.

Ukraine has been in bad form when they play at home in Donetsk. The squad hasn’t been able to win in their L6 at Donetsk and trying to change that against England is going to be difficult. If Shevchenko is limited or isn’t playing at 100% the chances of the Ukrainians are extremely slim, as Shevchenko is the only player on the team to score during Euro 2012.

England vs. Ukraine Best Bets

When you look at the H2H stats the English have a 3-0-1 edge in 4 matches. However, the last match was a 2010 WC qualifier that the English lost against the Ukraine 1-0. With Rooney back and Shevchenko not fit I’m betting on England at 2.25 odds. England can qualify with a draw, but a win might allow them to win Group D and avoid Spain in the QF match-up.

Paddy Power has a great money-back special running for this match. If Wayne Rooney scores anytime during this match Paddy will refund losing 1st goalscorer, last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast bets for up to £100. I’m betting on England to win the match 2-0 in the correct score markets at 11.00 odds at Paddies to take advantage of this great money-back special.
